Rationale
Casiciaco Recoletos Seminary, Inc. (CaReS) takes pride in the accomplishments and achievements of its alumni who become Recollect priests and religious, diocesan priests or priests and religious of other religious congregations, and former seminarians. Their achievements, not only reflect well of themselves, but also extend and enhance the significance, integrity, and good name of the seminary. The Flamma Augustiniana Award is conferred to any alumnus who has demonstrated and continued to share the Augustinian Recollect charism and formation in his chosen field of endeavor, has exceptional achievements, and outstanding contribution that brings about substantial benefit to the Church, the society, and distinct honor to the seminary, the Province of St. Ezekiel Moreno, and the Order of Augustinian Recollects. Recognition is given to the achievements and contributions that impact the community in which the alumnus is or has been active, whether this be at the local, regional, national, international, or global level.
1. Structure of the Awards
1.1 CaReS Most Distinguished Alumnus–Flamma Augustiniana Awardee
The most prestigious award to be given by the CaReS Chapter of Formation, in collaboration with the CaReS Alumni Association and Former Seminarians of OAR (ForSOAR) National Chapter to an alumnus who has achieved outstanding success or recognition is the Most Distinguished Alumnus–Flamma Augustiniana Award. The selection of the committee particularly looks for an individual who stands out among the nominees for the Distinguished Alumni Award and has achieved international and national prominence either in his professional field or his involvement in professional, church, civic, cultural, or charitable activities.
1.2 CaReS Lifetime Distinguished Achievement–Flamma Augustiniana Awardee
The awardee, throughout his career (whether completed or nearly so), must have consistently rendered illustrious and meritorious service and achieved distinction in his area of endeavor, which altogether clearly makes him a credit to his profession, to the seminary, to the Catholic Church, and the humankind. Furthermore, the nominee should be an outstanding citizen who has led an exemplary life.
Given the character of this award, an alumnus who has retired from service in the public or private sector (but may still be active) may merit higher rating points for the award.
1.3 CaReS Distinguished Alumnus–Flamma Augustiniana Awardee
The Distinguished Alumnus Award is conferred to an alumnus who has demonstrated, in his chosen field of endeavor, an exceptional achievement and outstanding contribution that bring about substantial benefit to society and distinct honor to the seminary, the Order, the Catholic Church, and humanity. Recognition is given to the achievements and contributions that impact the community in which the alumnus is or has been active at the local, provincial, regional, national, or international level.
Such exemplary involvement may include, but is not limited to, the following:
1.1.1 Evangelization Program and Mobilization of Resources to Propagate the Catholic Faith and Sacraments
1.1.2 Transformational and People-Oriented Leadership
1.1.3 Church and Public Service with Corporate Social Responsibility or Synodality
1.1.4 Social, Human Sciences, Peace and Social Development, and Poverty Alleviation Advocacy
1.1.5 Research, Communication, Information, Publication, and Promotion of Truth
1.1.6 Environmental Protection and Conservation of Natural Resources and Ancestral Domains that Involve the Community and Tribal Groups
1.1.7 Entrepreneurship, Skills Training and Development, Economic Sustainability, and Employment Creation
1.1.8 Culture and the Arts that Enhance Community Pride and Unity among People
1.1.9 Science and Technological Innovation that Promote and Defend Human Life
1.1.10 Education Development that Uplift Human Condition and Love of Country
1.1.11 Medical Advancement and Public Health that Defend Human Dignity and Life, and
1.1.12 Social Justice and Human Rights with Special Care for the Poor and the Marginalized, Women Empowerment, Youth Engagement, and Capacity Building or Training, and Protection of Children
2. Implementing Guidelines
2.1 Eligibility
2.1.1 The Search for the Most Distinguished Alumnus–Flamma Augustiniana Awardee is open to all CaReS alumni of good moral character and whose dedication to his profession or vocation has made significant contributions to the advancement of his mission, societal welfare, and community and/or national and global developments.
2.1.2 Candidate must have received a degree, diploma, and/or certificate from Casiciaco Recoletos Seminary, whether in Senior High School or College.
2.1.3 Current Officials of the Order and the Province, the Prior Provincial and his Council, CaReS Formators, members of the Selection Committee, Elected Officers of the CaReS Alumni Association and the ForSOAR National Chapter, current CaReS faculty, and employees of the seminary are not eligible for any of the awards.
2.1.4 A posthumous award may be given for a special or just reason. The presentation of which is made to a designee selected by the family of the recipient.
2.2 Nominations
2.2.1 Nominations for the award may be submitted by a CaReS alumnus, a group of CaReS alumni, a CaReS lay formator(s), or a ForSOAR Chapter. However, the expressed permission of the nominee must be secured by the nominator(s) for the nomination to be valid.
2.2.2 The nominator is enjoined to furnish the Awards Committee with additional information in connection with the basic nomination data of the nominee, particularly related to service to the community within or outside the nominee’s professional area. Copies of documentary evidence of achievements or accomplishments of the nominee may accompany the nomination form on behalf of the nominee. In case these are not available at the time of nomination, the nominator should attest in the nomination form that he had informed the nominee that such documents shall be required from them. These documents shall be the major basis for determining the award.
2.2.3 It is understood that when the nominee consents to the nomination, his data may be divulged publicly in connection with the award.
2.2.4 A nominator can only nominate one nominee.
2.2.5 Nomination forms may be obtained from the CaReS Registrar’s Office, or may be downloaded from the CaReS Website (www.recoletosdebaguio.edu.ph)
2.2.6 Duly accomplished nomination forms, recent 2”x2” photographs (at least 300 dpi), with the accompanying required documentation such as copies of citations/awards, news clippings, photographs, and other materials should be sent in either electronic or digital version, to this email address: anth.15irineo@gmail.com or may be submitted to CaReS Registrar’s Office on or before Saturday, October 28, 2023. Only complete and properly accomplished forms shall be accepted as valid.
2.3 Selection Criteria

2.4 Selection Procedure
2.4.1 The Search for the CaReS Flamma Augustiniana Award 2023 shall be officially announced by the Chapter of Formation. Such official announcement shall be published in print in the seminary’s website and official social media account.
2.4.2 The Rector will constitute and appoint a Selection Committee for the alumni awards.
2.4.3 The Office of the Registrar, with the collaboration of the Office of the Dean of Studies, will collate the submitted nominations or Nomination Forms to be reviewed and validated by a Selection Committee.
2.4.3 Upon review, the Selection Committee for the Search for CaReS Most Distinguished Alumnus-Flamma Augustiniana Awardee, Lifetime Distinguished Achievement-Flamma Augustiniana Awardee, and Distinguished Alumnus-Flamma Augustiniana Awardee, may request additional information or documents from the nominators. and endorse the awardees to the Office of the Rector. The Awards will be conferred by the Chapter of Formation.
2.4.4 The Most Distinguished Alumnus–Flamma Augustiniana Awardee, Lifetime Distinguished Achievement-Flamma Augustiniana Awardee, and Distinguished Alumnus-Flamma Augustiniana Awardee shall be presented during the Commencement Exercises and/or the grand alumni homecoming.
2.5 Selection Committee
2.5.1 As mentioned, the Rector shall constitute a Selection Committee (Panel of Judges) to be composed of the following:
1-Chairman; 1-Vice Chairman; 5-Members; and 1-Secretary
2.5.2 The Selection Committee that will also serve as the Panel of Judges shall be selected from the members of the Chapter of Formation, the lay formators of the seminary, officers of CaReS Alumni Association and the ForSOAR National Chapter, and an active mass-goer or benefactor of the seminary.
2.5.3 All the aforementioned, except for the Secretary, shall have voting power. The decision of the Panel of Judges shall be final and not appealable.
2.5.4 The Rector will immediately notify the alumnus who has been selected for a respective award. The awardee must confirm his acceptance of the award(s) and his attendance at the awards ceremony by submitting the signed conforme. The CaReS Chapter of Formation observes the “NO PROXY” policy unless for a grave and just reason that the awardee(s) could not personally receive the award(s).
2.5.5 If the awardee declines to accept the award and/or fails to attend the awards ceremony in person, the CaReS Chapter of Formation reserves the right to withdraw the award.
2.6 Award
The recipients of the Most Distinguished Alumnus–Flamma Augustiniana Award, Lifetime Distinguished Achievement-Flamma Augustiniana Award, and Distinguished Alumnus-Flamma Augustiniana Award shall receive the following:
2.6.1 Miniature of a Flaming Heart on a Hand symbolizing St. Augustine and
2.6.2 Plaque signed by the Prior Provincial, CaReS Rector, the Chairman or Vice-Chairman of the Selection Committee (Panel of Judges), the President of CaRes Alumni Association, and the President of ForSOAR National Chapter. In the absence of any one or more signatories, at least, a minimum of two signatories, particularly, the Rector and the Chairman or Vice-Chairman of the Panel of Judges, should be affixed on the plaque.
2.7 Awarding Schedule
The Most Distinguished Alumnus–Flamma Augustiniana Award, Lifetime Distinguished Achievement-Flamma Augustiniana Award, and Distinguished Alumnus–Flamma Augustiniana Award, are conferred during commencement exercises of the academic year (if there is a necessity to confer the award to jubilarians) or given during Grand Alumni Reunion called upon by the Chapter of Formation with the confirmation of the Officers of CaReS Alumni Association and the ForSOAR National Chapter.
